Could someone tell me what the diffrences are in the F350 from 1986-1997?? I know the motor changes and diffrences but how about trannys and tcases??? Front and rear axles??? Did they all have the E4od for autos and RC60 for front axles???
At least with the diesels, through 87 ran the t-19b 4 speed stick and the c6. Some late 87's and all later trucks ran the zf5 od trans. The E4od was definetly introduced by 89, but I am not sure when. Mabey 88? Also, both the e4od and c6 were concurently availible through 91, I think. I know the 85 uses a bw 1345 t-case, and I think it continued through the early 90's, and somewhere switched to a 1356. Rear axles should all be 10.25.
At least in '97 (and not certain how much earlier) they stopped using the 1356 and started using the Borg Warner.......4404? ... or something like that. A web search for various BW 'cases would turn it up..........I just don't care enough 'cause it's not a real desireable or common 'case.
On the 97's, you got the 4404 if you didn't order the PTO option, the 13-56 if you did...
Behind the 460, you will find all 10.25's, behind a diesel, in 85 and 86, you will find some D70 rears.
T-case in these trucks was the 1354 up until about 88, 13-56 from then on.
The C6 was avalable on the option sheet right up until 97, they're just not very common past the early 90's. The T-19 was offered until 91, in 460 powered 4x4's, it's the T19-A with the 6.32 first gear, just like a T18, in 2wd's, and diesel 4x4's, it has the 4.02 first gear. The T-19 was only offered behind the 460 and diesel, the other gas engines(300(earlier trucks) and 351W, no 302 over 8500 GVWR, no exceptions) only got a T18/NP 435, or a ZF 5 speed..
The ZF was first offered midway through the 87 model year.
To the best of my knowedge, the rear end changed from the d70 to the 10.25 somehwere in mid 85, I beilive right around 1-85 date of manufacture. I have not heard of a 86 or newer with a stock dana 70 rear.
