There is a guy at my school,(he's kinda a stoner or something, doesn't seem like he's all there) has an '87 or so 4Runner and he asked me if I want to buy it for $1500. It's got 260000 on the body, usual rust for the Midwest, one torn up CV boot, and a throttle linkage problem. But the engine he said was a rebuilt one about a year ago, and is out of a early '90's pickup.
Good buy, bad buy? What do you guys thing?

Seems a little high to me ( him and the price LOL ) is there any rust in the frame and does he have a receipt for the motor ?

Check the frame, I bet that's why he's selling it. Climb underneath and beat on it with a hammer and screwdriver, especially the sides facing the middle of the vehicle. Directly under the "bed" and where the fram transitions from flat to curved-up are where it's usually the worst.

This isn't mine, just one I saw on the side of the road for sale for $200-

I agree... check really closely for a rusted out frame. Also check by the gas tank. Seems a bit high to me too. Who knows how that stonner :rasta: treated the thing. If it all looks good, offer him $1k... never hurts.
