Picking up a 73 SII this coming week with a weenie 258 and 727. Looking for a 4 or 5 speed and transfer case on the cheap. Used for DD so strenth isn't really an issue. What years (Jeep) do I need to look for? Or should I post this in the Jeep forum?

If it's working use it!

If you have to have a four speed there are T19 close ratio and Dana 20 tranfer cases everywhere.

The T-19 wasn't an option for the 258. Not from IH anyway. I'd have to find out if the input shaft is the correct length.

Is that a 258...or a 232 ? I thought IH used just the 232.

I have a 258 in my D1100, but the prior-owner stuck it in...from an AMC car he got at auction for 30 bucks

I have a complete T18 (with bell housing) and D20 T/C out of an AMC258 powered 1973 Scout II that I could sell to you (or trade for an I4 Scout 800 T18 four speed and bell housing if you have it). Unfortunately, shipping from NorCal to La. would probably kill the deal...
