I bought a 1984 chev 4x4, and i found out that they blew the rear diff and changed it, now the rear diff is 2.73 and the front is
3.08. i have another 2.73 rear diff, could i take the ring and pinion out of that one and put it in the 3.08, or are the ring and pinion different from front to back.
thanks

As long as the axles have not been swapped at some time (i.e. as long as they are both still 10 bolts), yes, you can swap the gears from front to rear and vice versa. Now I want to know why the hell you are sticking with 2.73 gears??

the front has 3.08 the back has 2.73 , and the reason why im wanting to put 2.73 in the front is i have another 10 bolt rear diff
with 2.73 in it, so i figured i colud save some money doing that.
i'm i better off putting 3.08 in the rear diff, what do you suggest.
the truck has a 350 with 3 speed auto.
thanks for any information
