back from the chili challenge, and all i have to say is Michelin 12.5 R20 xl's suck. The grip like a mad man, but they have the weakest side walls I have seen. I lost 4 tires. They seem to only have one steel ply. what a rip. time for some ag tires now

I run on the rims when i want to strip the paint off to refinish!!!

Sorry I missed you Jason, The mog did great otherwise. we did not get out to the fair grounds except for late the first day, to get washed off. So I missed alot of people, but the mog is not the best highway driver, and most of the people i was with stayed around the hotel.

Oh, and my brother did come down, I can only assume he is lakotastoy, with the rim remark. I had to drive from the trail head of tabasco twister, to the main air down area on one rim. Lets just say it was a really bad day on saturday. Ohwell, time to strip the mog down, and rebuild it. It should be really nice next year.

Tires

Thanks for the info on tires. I was just about to buy
used xls to have as a spare set. The price sure
was right. I think I will stick with the m27s.

yea, the price is definatly right, but only if you are going to hit the street, or improved dirt roads. And keep the air pressure high, to reduce side wall wear.

Hey Gunracer, it seems to be a combination of rocks, tire age, and one stick. I loved the tires performance otherwise, but the side walls are just to light. The one fresh tire i got from you held up great, in all, they just didnt hold up in general. I put a call out to michelin, to see what the design was behind the tires, but I won't hear from them for a few days I am sure. Right now, I am jsut trying to figure out how to get the truck rollin again, since it is on one lame tire. I had to spend $150 bucks in Las C to get two tires patched and tubed, but that only held on one tire. Anyway, I may have to get with you about soemthing to hold the truck up for awhile. Not sure what I am going to do, just one of those things, could have been age, or it could have been the way I am using them, but the bottom line is they did not work in that harsh of an inviroment. But the tires did stick well.

Hey KC
I was thinking of getting some of those XLS but I am going for the 1600's and would like some more input on the michelin line.
Hwo old were yours, what pressures were you running and how did they blow? did you hit a rock, a rut, a branch or just pinched the sidewall from too low of pressure?
I was thinking of the used tires, but I guess I am better off with new ones?
I guess the 1600's should be stronger since they are bigger.

Thanks
IceMan

the 16.00 and the 14.00 are load rated at 10,000 and 14,000 i dont think you would ever tear one of them up. i am pretty sure you could run them with out any air. just use a 2 piece rim like john 351 or danial sells with a double bead locks. the 12.5 are load rated at 4400# and flex a bunch.

I can only speak on behalf of the 12.5 R20's They seem to be an odd ball tire, and i dont know what there applicatin was. But they were not meant for sharp rocks. However, I have since tubed all the tires, and they are sittin just fine, but tubes dont last to long off road.

KC,

My Mog buddy runs 335/80R20 XMLs. They're a lot thicker than the XLs that I've seen. They might hold up better to the rocks.

BTW, I'm glad to hear the XLs stick. I've run these in 900R16 size all winter and have been really happy with them.
