Choke Help Needed, HELP!

This one is for you guys with knowledge of 70s and 80s chevys P/u.

I have a 1978 that i recently converted from a 4.1 (250ci)to a 7.4.. the 454 came out of a 82 suburban, the intake had some weird tubes/pipes on a plate that went inside the heads.. i replaced the heads for some 1985 "peanuts" (big mistake i know) and so the tubes would not go down the new heads. I cut off this tubes and sealed the holes, the plate was bolted back on to prevent vaccum leak. The carb i got form a friend is a quadraJunk with electric Choke... I Do not remeber what choke system the truck originally had, the engine was sold long ago. The truck does have however a wire that when I feed positive current to it it lights up the choke light on the dash... is this the wire i need to hook up to the choke?? if not then where do i hook up this wire to? Do i need a temp sending unit type gysmo for the truck to know when to operate the choke? do i wire it hot all the time from the ignition? .... I think you know where I am at so please advise how do i properly hook up both the gauge light for choke and actual choke on carb.. Thanks.

Changed mine to a manual pressure guage so I just jumpered the plug for the pressure swicth so it's hot when ign. is on I don't recall seeing a choke light on my dash but it's propably dead like half the stuff I don't use. Iwould say just hot wire to an ign.sorce then you know it's always on. :smokin:
Thanks for the info. However, I would like to know how to make my choke dash light work. worse case scenario I will probably do as you advise. are you sure the choke will be alright being on all the time? wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having a choke?

Don't worry about the choke light (at least I wouldn't).
If your choke doesn't open after the engine starts to warm up, its a simple adjustment and you will know it isn't open cause your engine will be coughing black smoke from the tailpipe, and it will run like shit.
Also, if you really want to hook it up to the choke light, consult a service manual for its wiring schematics.
As for a hot wire for your choke, any 12 volt source that is on/off controlled by your ignition switch will work fine.
DON'T hook it up straight to your battery, cause your choke will always be on and will drain your battery.
2 oil sending units/switches WTF?? "see pictures"

I was looking at pictures from the old engine it seems to have had 2 oil sending units/switches.. would you guys look at them ? is one of them maybe have anything to do with the choke? or the choke light. Sorry If i sound anal about the stupid choke light... I have been building this truck all year with right parts and w/out cutting any corners and now that it is 99.9 built i'm not gonna start half assing shit. I think it's gonna bother me if I know the light is not connected, You become attatched to these trucks.. Anyhow you will see the 2 sending units. the big one with one prong is for the pressure gauge.. 100% ... what is the second switch with the 2 prongs for>??? the picture u see is from the old long gone 250, I only have the oil gauge unit hooked up on the new 454.. the other hook up is dangling arrond with some other unused wires from the harness.. Please advise.

Can't open your attached pics, so I can't see what you are talking about, but without seeing them, I would take a wild guess and say that the other sender is for the temp idiot light???
the temp light goes on a different unit at the heads.. I was thinkin engine light.. ? do these trucks have a check engine light? because of the 2 prong type i'm thinking it's an on/off type switch... I don;t know..
the second switch is a on/off press switch that turns power to the choke on when there is oil press. It is the plug for this switch that I by-past when I put a mech press guage in I just pluged the extra hole cause I broke the switch and was to cheep to go buy or find another one.
Thank you for the info. so one of those 2 wires comes hot and then the switch closes circuit when oil pressure present.. so in theory i need to find one of those 2 ends and plug it to my choke right?
