I was out at the P-N-P the other day and I was looking around and noticed the 80’s Chrysler products had a AC compressor the looks like a little “V” motor. It is a two-cylinder compressor and looks like it has oil in the crankcase. Has anyone every tried to adapt these for on-board air?

I have heard people say that they work great but I have never seen one in action. Since it is a piston type pump it should work good like a york or tecumsa, but I think it would be more dificult to mount except on a dodge.

A buddy runs one. They apparently have a higher cfm than the yorks but I couldn't find any #'s for them so I don't know how accurate that is.It does push some oil into the lines.Still playing around with oil seperators and return lines and or reduced oil in the crankcase to alleviate the oil problem.
Pretty vauge information but it's all I've got.Hopefully somebody else on the board will have more definitive info????

Oh yah he runs it on a full size Ford.Just made up a couple of brackets, pretty simple but of course there is tons of room.

When I was looking for a York I met a guy who owns a junkyard here in town and he told me he had never heard of using a York as an air compressor, but he had made sevral shop compressors out of the Chrysler AC pumps hooked up to electric motors so I'm sure they are fine.

Its been done, and its worked out very well.. I've heard others talk of having alot of oil contamination in their air lines but I believe it must have been a problem with the pump having worn out rings, they also complained of the crank case building pressure which I havent seen either of these symptoms on my setup..

This picture is a little outdated but its handy so i'm using it
