My CJ7 frame has a large hole in it where the traction bar mount used to be. It tore a ~3*7" hole in the inside of the frame rail.

Its gonna get plated and I know fishmouthing the plate is a good idea but is there anything else I should think of?

My tranny & xfer case are tucked up nice and high so the rear drive shaft and exhaust get in the way of making a simple rail to rail X-member. Any suggestions on how to fit/design a better mount?

In the above pic you can see we tried to truss it enough that mounting only on one side would be enough, but it seems the frame wasn't up to it. Whoops.

do you have a skid plate?(don't see it in the pic maybe make the traction bar longer to reach it?)

and if so would it make a suitable mount?

I know on my CJ the flat skid I made out of 1/4" is going to be my mount.

The inside wall of CJ7 frames is thinner than the outer wall..
Therein lies part of your problem.

you can always go for the x member w/ driveshaft hoop route. I know summit sells some, or you can build a hoop to integrate into it... my friend has one supporting the entire rear engine/700r4/tcase combo w/ a hoop in it on his SOA 89 s10 blazer.
