I always liked remote reservoirs, they usually increase capacity and allow easier hookup of a cooler. Also they do help keep fluid coil by themselves

Actually the TJ pump does not have enough power to run the Rock Ram with 38 inch or larger tires. I have a friend running the stock TJ pump in a scrambler with a 2000 4.0 and 38 swampers and it sounds like the guts are being torn out of it. also AGR bores the CJ pump so it has even more output than a stock CJ pump. AGR might be coming out with a bored TJ pump which would solve the problem also......Thanks Mike

When I did my motor swap my original intention was to use the 258 power steering pump, but after several hours of trying to get it to work I concluded that I needed the 4.0l pump. There were too many problems with mounting and finding the correct pully for the serp belt. I did have a pump from the 4.0l, but the low pressure side nipple was broken. I found a way to fix it and installed it. BTW on a '91 XJ the resivior is mounted on the pump. HTH

At the risk of stepping on toes, there is a source for a remote reservoir, a hot rodded TJ pump and a steering gear that will do anything you need, at least up to 37's.

Lee Manufacturing has just finished the set-up above and it is near flawless. The pump has been modified in a couple of ways to produce the pressure and volume at idle to turn the front effortlessly and with very low growling from the pump. I ran Sledge with the front ARB engaged the entire trip to see if I could either overheat it or get to where the steering wheel was difficult to turn and could accomplish neither.

I do have the remote reservoir which if I can remember correctly is based on sprint car stuff and designed in such a way to keep the fluid from being aerated. The bracket is pretty simple, bolts to the intake manifold and actually looks fairly decent.

The gear has been modified to eliminate the bushings on the sector shaft and the snout has been bored to support the sector shaft with three caged needle bearings.

I would not recommend running this box and pump without a good brace, which is also soon to be available from Lee. I never had an issue with my track bar mount and after this trip have developed a few cracks around it, even with it being braced to the other side of the frame.

Other than the cracked track bar mount, I am highly pleased with Mr. Lee's work. I do have some more testing to do though.
