Has anyone set a cj2a body on a cj5 frame? I quickly googled and it looks like the cj5 is 1 inch longer wheel base.
So outside of Fabbing some body mounts, not sure it would be to tough.

There are early and late CJ5's and I think the later ones are longer.
I once put a 47 CJ2A on a late sixties DJ frame.
My cousin AJ, who used to make fiberglass bodies, told me the CJ2A would fit any frame before the stretch, and that the DJ frames were some of the strongest.

True but finding a DJ frame in Alberta is not that easy.
Plus I’m seeking a running cj5 that way I get all the bits and pieces, diffs seats etc

I hear what your saying. I'm not pushing the DJ frame, just saying just about all the early short frames are close to "universal".
Other good advice was that the 71-75 CJ5's came with the Dana 44 rear with one piece flanged axles. IIRC.

I seam to recall someone had a homemade frame specs on here but I can’t seam to find it. Anyone know the thread?

So finding cj5 intact and not $12000 has proven to be difficult in my area... things have changed!! They were everywhere 15 years ago!

But yesterday I stumbled across a 79 cj5 frame with diffs, steering box and new fuel tank.
It has a soa kit installed. Which I’ve never seen this style before, it’s bolted in not weld in. That said easy to get rid of I guess.

He also had a vn3550 with advance adaptors Chev Bellhousing then behind that is a AA to a Dana 300 with a short output.
The guy was going to do the same thing put a 2a body on it. But he ran out of $ or ambition not sure which. It also came with a aftermarket drop drag link and a bunch of other clutch stuff, slave cylinder hoses etc.
I got it stupid cheap and just the day before a buddy called me and told me his kid wrote off his truck and wanted to know if I wanted the 4.3 out of it ! So I took it as a sign from above this was meant to be!

So I have a plan “subject to change on the way” but here it is
47 2a body on 79 cj5 frame shortened at back but will wait till I set body on to see which way I like better

Dana 300 but might research using d18 as I have the entire pto set up for mine and I think the d300 adaptor is the same for the d18 but more research is involved.
D300 is easier thou but PTO is cool, just for giggles.
Front diff is stock 79 cj d30 with disk brakes
Rear is stock 79 cj model 20 I will convert to disk brakes.

I’d like to not have to stretch body but I do need/want to mod the floor for more seat room.
Maybe a little in the doors to give myself some “big guy” access room which would help with the longer wheelbase
All these things will change on the fly I think once the body is on the frame loose!

The 79 frames are a lot longer so you will have to compensate for that somewhere...

10 years ago, I built my 1951 M38 (similar to CJ-3A) using a 79-83 CJ5 frame.

I ran a Ford 5.0 SEFI, NP435, D300, and D60HP. I chose the late frame for three reasons.

1. Front cross member uses native Saginaw steering box.
2. Fully Boxed frame rails.
3. Wider frame rails aft of the rear axle to enable larger fuel tank.

The 76+ CJ5 wheelbase is 3.5-4 inches longer than the CJ-2A...(84 inch vs 80 inch) Most of that length can be found between the spring hanger eyes. But the Early CJ uses shorter front leaf springs. (and narrower)

I found that a shackle reversal, running the wider and longer CJ 5 springs up front shortens it back up.

If you do a shackle reversal, you can shorten up the front bumper horns and keep it looking right.

the later Cj-5 frame is also tapered at the transfer case skid plate area. That is how the frame gets wider. This allows you to eliminate the under seat fuel tank, and still have lots of fuel capacity. You just need to find a way to fill it.

With my V8, and a stock water pump...the distance from the grill to the rear axle pinion yoke defines how long things can be. I ended up with a 12.5 inch CV driveshaft. I also had to build a new firewall tunnel to fit the bell housing. If you go with a GM 4.3, and a NV3550 / AX15...I'm not sure it will fit.

Great stuff!
I put a SR on my cj7 and loved it, I’d thought about doing it on this 2a just so I could move leafs forward or back accordingly!

How do longer/wider cj 5 leafs make it shorter? Are the pins mover forward?

Ya I wasn’t 100% positive the nv3550 will fit but I got it so cheap I figured I can put it on the shelf if it doesn’t.
