OK i ran across a CJ8 a guy I know has, I can probably get it really cheap. I am in need of a tow rig but it will be at least 2 yaers before I can afford a 3/4 or 1 ton. I know bigger is better for tow rigs.

My question is if, I beef the suspension and slap a 350 with an auto in the CJ8 could I get buy towing my YJ(on a trailer) with it. Maybe only 3 or 4 decent trips a year (about 8 hours). The CJ8 would also be a DD.

I was thinking when I can afford the F250/F350 I would have a second trail rig as well.

Any thought or opinions?? Thanks

Good luck on gas and if it has the model 20 better ditch that for towing. I cant really see a big problem if you slap in a 350.. Good luck.. <IMG SRC="smilies/jeep1.gif" border="0">

I once towed a boat over 88 from Tahoe with my CJ-8. And it was damn squirrely.

I would not tow anything heavier than 2500 lbs. Because that is what I did, 2500 lbs, and it was not fun.

At 2500 lbs, it was not a question of weight, but more the fact that the boat was longer than the Jeep. It did a lot of bucking and pushing.

I think you would be much better off with even a cheap 1/2 ton pickup. A CJ-8 is just to small and will need extra crap that is standard in a pickup
