Ok all you link suspension guys...

Post up what you know about selecting the right spring rates and coil valving rates.

How do you figure coil rates...what works...what doesn't.

Coil over store :flipoff2:

I haven't got anything yet. I am leaning toward the ORI struts for weight reduction...but haven't decided yet. Stupid buggy...too many choices.

I am just wondering about coil rates...

Here are the specs so far...

There is about 500lbs on each corner ( sprung weight )

-shocks are 14" or 16" ( depending how much room I am going to have
-the shocks are set in the middle, 7-8" uptravel, 7-8" downtravel.
-The lower shock mount is going to be right on the knuckle
-The upper shock mount is going to be canted in just a bit to allow clearance. I would guess at the worst 5-8 degrees

The front is a 'cradle' design 4-link ( lower links converging at the t-case, upper links parallel.

Rear is the same as the front link design

I want the best overall use springrate. Lots of rockcrawling, followed by some good pre-running type stuff.

Thanks for the help

Yes, I won't have to figure all this out if I go with ORI struts...

Well, if you were gonna go 14's I would go with a 175lbs/175lbs combo. If you choose 16's I would go 150lbs/175lbs combo.

EDIT: Keep in mind that this is assuming you sprung weight estimate is correct.

Thanks pig....

Could you explain why you chose what you did? I am trying to figure out the methods behind it.

Also, what length coils?

Mieser, it's an ancient Chinese secret... As far as lengths go, it depends upon what lengths shocks you want.
