anyone have any info of choppin the top of the cab. seal ideas etc... any web sites i can check out? even a regular cab.

I was thinking about the same thing just bolt the stock tin part to the runner hard top and cut the rest off done.Real easy it never rains here anyways <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">

Hey big bird if you want to do this we can work together and figure it out I've been thinking of some ways of doing it to mine.
Is this so you can build a real nice roll cage? Thats one of the reasons I wanted to do it to mine. Don't really want to go exo.

What about using a conv top kit for a truck.Use the part that goes across the roof and then build the side pieces just like the rest of the side.You just may not be able to lift the top from the front because of the strength of the bolts.It may want to crack the fiberglass.

I've got a million pictures of my truck on my site, but no real writeup of how I cut the top off. I kind of just did it in the heat of the moment <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> type thing. I used a bikini top from a wrangler and it's rainproof. I drilled buttons into the little bit of roof I had left with drywall screws and rivited them into the top. I also got industrial strength velcro from home depot and stuck it behind the buttons on the roof and sewed it into the top(MAJOR PITA). I'm happy with it. The rear of it straps to the back of the cage, but it does start to flap pretty bad above 60mph or so. I think I need to add a strap to teh middle or something. Here's a crappy pic, but you get the idea.

How about using a boat top? I've seen what looks like a long top off a speedster and they look about the right width and length of a runner's roof. They fold back and are about $3-400 with sst bows. Anyone?

Rick, this is something I've been trying to figure out too (Ya, ya, no runner... But it WILL be... MUAHAHAHAHAH <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">)...

I have two suggestions. First off, SOMEONE makes a Toy pickup removable-hardtop kit. Apparently I can't find it on the net, but it's there. You could at least use the front of this. The rear would have to be customed with some fibreglass (Unless you know ABS well; I don't. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">)... Should work fine.

What I'm planning on doing is cutting it at the line of the bed (which will be the line of the body w/o the top) but at an angle (30 or so degrees), so the metal slopes down towards the outside of the truck (towards you if you're standing there), and welding on some plate on both the cab and the roof. I'm gonna use a 1/4" disc (or something <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">) so I can cap it with 1/8" sheet, and then I'm gonna use some thin foam or rubber on the bottom of the roof piece...

The front will be a pita, that's why the kit would be nice. But, I think if you can have the front of the roof piece overlap the windshield frame, it won't leak. Still figgerin. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

There used to be one company Hottops that made kits for the trucks. This was about 12 years ago so who knows if they are still around.

Do a search. I bought said kit for like 300$ and it sucked. I cut the top like three inches from the windshield and it is one piece untill the corners. The other corners are kinda tricky but I made plates outa 18guage steel and will put them on someday... sorry no real pix?
