Hey Guys,

Have any of you messed around with crossover exhaust? With this system, the exhaust comes out dual from the exhaust manifolds, it then is connected to an X in the middle, and then going back out dual. I am fixin' to put on a new exhaust system on my Suburban. Through research, I have found that the crossover exhaust equalizes backpressure and exhaust flow increasing horsepower. Through testing, It was determined that crossover exhaust produced more power than straight pipe exhaust systems. I was wanting to know if any of you have messed with it?
(where legal of course)

Thanks,
Powerstroke

Got a friend of mine that did it on his truck and loves it...
he did 3" pipe with flowmasters and it makes the neatest sound out the rear and really woke up the power..
Go for it!!!

what kind of engine and hp is he producing? I'm interested on this with my blazer if I can manage it under there. Also question on the system in general, does it have to be a perfect x? does the angle matter? can one side be slightly longer? thanks guys you rock

You don't have to go with an X pipe. You can do a single straight pipe between the two sides which is called a crossover tube. I have that on all of my rigs and have noticed a huge difference. One of my motors is pushing 450 hp, one around 400 hp, and the other at about 325 hp. All of them are done with 2.5in with flowmasters. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

is there not any major torque differnct in the x pipe vs. the crossover? I've noticed a lot of the rustang guys will run an x pipe. But everyone that runs true duals runs the crossover pipe. Also looking for opinions fairly stock motor guessing it's a 355 mild cam, edelbrock intake, headers, mild stuff, probably should run 2" duals for max torque u think?

I've always heard of this as an "H" pipe. And they are better than the "X" pipe.

The cross over pipe versus the X pie.
The cross over will do what you asked as far as balincing the system. the X pipe is what is used on all NASCAR cars and will provide you with better high RPM performance the x pipe actuly pulls the exhaust form one bank to the other causing a suction and pulling the exhaust out of the engine. Of course to make this the most efficent as possible ypu need to do some cylinder head work. I have this system on my 95 Tahoe with a blown 454 and it works great. The main reason for the others using the crossover pipe or the H pipe is the cost. Yes it dose matter if they X is right. If the X is built offset it will hender the flow. I hope this helps. If you need any more info. please e mail me I will try to help as much as I can Jim Aka Wilseya.

I used a Bassani x-over on my chevy, found this from the mustang guys, found one that was for sale on e-bay for 50, then I cut the x out and put it on my exhaust. Works great with my 383. I had a h-pipe on my truck before but I like the x-over better, the last post is true thou it pulls alot better in the upper rpms but torque also seems to have gained.
