i was wondering how well a chevy D44 work under a 22RE 4RUNNER. Does the 4 cyl have enough power to push the extra weight? thanks

If you're worried about the 4cylinder not being able to push the extra weight of the D44 - then how much power do you think it's gonna have when you add tools, winch, bumpers, extra bodies, cooler, skid plating, bigger tires, etc??
Irrelavent.....just costs more on gas.

RE-GEAR for more power

One of the guys I wheel with has a Suzuki Samuari with a stock 1.3 liter engine. He runs a 10 bolt front ( same weight etc as a 44) and a FF 60 in the rear with 38" Swampers, no problems. He has 5.13 gears, and a 4:1 transfer case. It is all in the gearing. So it should work in your Toyota just fine.
