Ok, i think it might be in the big Dana Catalog PDF in the tech section, but i don't have a decent PDF reader currently.

anyone have the actual pinion depth specification? (from the C/L of the diff) OR an equivalent?

that looks like the stuff, hoss... thanks!
my big chilton truck repair 71 to 78 book says 2.625 (measuring to the factory set-up tool) but i aint got no factory set up tool!

information for those interested.

the 2.625 dimension is correct, and is measured from the CL of the diff (and ring gear) to the head of the pinion. (no special tools required beyond the proper length straightedge / surface and a big enough depth micrometer. the chilton number is right)

(thanks again true hi9 - i did not have a surface / straightedge that would allow me to figure out how that 4.312 dimension applies)
I believe it is the number from where the pinion head would seat against the large pinion bearing. This method is sometimes used since some pinions do not have the face machined off smooth.
