well, the 20 has a completely round diff cover, and a d44 is like, well, a d44, there have been zillions of articles id'ing both.. seek and ye shall find...

peace, Dave

ps, you can buy a running, rusted out wag from 80-86 and drive it home for probably 500 bucks, and just use the model 20.. in wags they have one-piece axles, and thicker axle tubes, many FSJ'ers would rightly tell you that the FSJ 20 is actually a stronger axle than a D44, and they owuld be right, but folks here dont like to hear that sometimes... so, skip the bling, get a whole wag for 500 tomorrow, instead of waiting for a cheap enough late 86 - 90 to show up....

the 20 is very noticable Round Diff is easy money to spot.

I just picked up one not to long ago and swapped it in this weekend, it is out of an FSJ so one piece axles installed, it was trussed with 4.56's and a detroit installed... $100.00.

And as for the year of the drive drop look at the 81 and up... I forgot what years had the vacuum disco though.. it was only a few years though.
