just read thru the 5.38 weak thread and didnt realize the difference in strengths between them all. I was under the impression that once you hit 4.88 it was almost all the same from there.

anyone have any #'s on 5.xx series dana 44 gearsets.

teeth #'s, strong, weak , etc.

any info on percentages weaker from 4.xx sets?

Back in my sled pulling days (I) was limited to a 4:56 gear in the front because the pinion "neck" has a tendancy to "twist/shear" clean off pulling 8,000 pound sled....just FYI.....wheeling can cause similar 'shock loads" landing after a good launch....:D

5.38 = 43 ring/8 pinion

5.13 = 41 ring/8 pinion

FYI, Dana says that anything lower than 5.38 is cut for strength rather than for quietness. That only leaves 5.89 for the 44 though and I don't know how they compare to the 5.38
