Ok, I've had allot of thoughts going through my head. (1/4 elliptical rear, extended wheel base, even building something else, you know good stuff ) I have decided that I should start with axles before anything. I was putting the cart before the horse I guess you'd say Anyway I'm going to start to put the Cherokee front 44 in my 5 and look for a 60 for the rear. I know the 44 isn't a 60 but Jess is doing wonderful things with u-joints I want to stay 5 on 5.5 at the rims. So would it be dumb to swap the knuckles from my Dana 30? Could I still run Mossier Shafts with the 297X size joint?
Sorry for all the Bull$Hit and thanks in advance for your help

I'm pretty sure 30 knuckles and '44 knuckles are the same.. so have at it.

Are you SURE you want to stay 5 on5.5? What if you (later) find a deal on a 60 front..

Only problem with the 30 knuckles is they're probably not flat-tops for high-steer..

When you want a hand doing this, let me know. I got a garage full of tools. Air, welder, blue tip wrench, etc etc.

Seriously, you aren't that far away. When the time comes to swap it, bring the crap down here and lets build it.

I don't have the 44 apart but I take it that the outer shafts are the same size/lenght and will work in the jeep spindle and lockouts.

If the D30 knuckles arnt the same you could use ford D44 outers. I am doing this same project my self. I am using ford outers (79 bronco), chevy housing ( for maximum strength), and am cutting it down to scout width ( about 60 inches). Its going to be sweet in my flatty. I do belive that the ford outers are wider then jeep.

"Depends" There are 27-spline short stub shafts and 19-spline long stub shafts. Most CJ Dana 30s are 27-spline (so are Scout II 30 and '44s). If you're lookin' to use the CJ knuckles, spindles, calipers, blah blah then you'll need 27-sp stub shafts.

I don't know if your donor axle uses the right stuff or not.

You could use SII stub shafts, or you could swap to a Chevy spindle and an F150 hub n' rotor and use the 19-sp stub shafts..

or...

Thanks for the info. I'm going to take that sucker apart tonight and we will see if it fits
This axle is 65" WMS to WMS. It's going to be tight on the trailer But I think I can make it fit. I just need to find a rear
