I have a dodge dana 70 rear that I am trying to put 14 bolt hubs on and disc brakes but I noticed that my axle flange is larger than the 14 bolt hub. I thought that this was a direct bolt on swap. I hope that you guys can help.

it should just be extra meat, the dodge hubs have a bigger od than chevy but the bolt holes should line up.

put the shaft in and bolt it on, spin it and grind the extra off.

are you certain that you have 14bff hubs?

Yes it is a Dodge truck and the rear end is out of a dodge but I'm using Chevy 14 bolt hubs and Chevy also uses dana 70's plus I figured since the dana 70 thread was started in the Chevy section that this would be the place to get some info. I really appreciate any help I can get. I have searched but have not ran into anybody else having this same problem.

I hate to be repetitive but the same holds true for axle shaft flanges - 70HD and 14 bolt = same. *I think* the only conical washer set up used on GM trucks was in the early 1st gen D60 rear ends, never on the GM version 70HD.

Sethro, you may have an early 70 with 23 spline axle shafts, which, while strong, have a larger hub pattern than the 14 bolt.

the reason Dodge used a tapered washer was to keep the studs from being ripped off.

no conicals on my 1970 d60.

the only thing that i can think of is that the sole problem is that it is a dodge. most that do the swap are doing it with a chevy drw d70.

My 89 Cummins truck has a 35 spline 70U under it with the cone washers on the flange.
Not sure about the axle bolt pattern itself though.

What is stated above is exactally what I found out. The hubs themselves fit perfect but when I went to put the shaft from the dana 70 in, the flange and flange bolt pattern was larger. Maybe not all dana 70's are like this but mine was. Oh well, better luck next time. I went ahead and made disc brake brackets and ran my wheel spacers and it works good.
