I have been trapped in wiring hell for the last few weeks. I actually got the wiring right but plugged the connectors in wrong (on the 96 Tracker they are not all keyed differently). Since the motor runs now I can start getting this thing back together. Here's a couple pics of the dash I worked on today.

The angle pieces are from Home Depot.

Still have to make some sides, paint and weatherproof the top and get all my switches mounted.

I feel your pain, Chris.. I haven't even started my wiring hell yet. All I have is a big piece of 16 gauge steel with some holes cut in it and some gauges plopped in.. WAY too much work ahead of me :(

Looks good, both of you.
You want wiring hell??? try to find that damned short in the harness(stock) that wont allow the altenator to work and makes the ECU think the O2 sensor is F&%ked!!

Oh well all the trial and tribulations after sinking it in four feet of mud and water :(

Many you got it good down in the sunny stuff, dont even need to run a windsheild!!

Gotta get mine back down there sometime to run more of Arizona, I was up at the Cinders last year in Flagstaff, what a blast! Makes me real jelous now with it bein only 17* right now.
too cold to even go in the garage and work!

It's not done yet! I had carpet over it before:D I did paint the firewall before I started wiring. Hey Vermin, nice gauges. I was going to go all new gauges but the project budget is getting out of hand with the coilovers and springs and heims and....... it never ends.

Hey, thanks for the switch link.. I may order up some of those. I've always loved the ARB switchs.. but have never been too thrilled with the idea of cutting so many little rectangle holes in that chunk of sheet metal I call a dash.. with that modular setup.. I could just cut one long hole.. and plop them all in there.. hrmmm. I totally understand how budgets get outa hand.. I must have $500 in fricken Aeroquip fittings in my junk now.. sheesh.

Lookin good chris....I almost bought those switches too.....Didnt know how i was going to but 6 sqare holes in my dash though...
Well I used a mill :D Seriously, I bought some of the modular mounts so I could put just one big hole in for 2 or more switches using a drill and jig saw. The modular pieces are only 80 cents.

Here's an end:

and a middle piece

They even have blanks so you can plan for future expansion.

For those who don't know, here's a switch (roughly $3) with light

and actuator (roughly $1), there are a ton to choose from.

Looks good, I still get amused everytime I see that “token sheet metal” portion of your tub left.

Wont be long before chris's hoard of raw steel rolling on baja claws consumes the last bit of original samurai sheet metal and then soon after the make of his buggy will be forgotten forever

Where did you find a replacement speedo? Mines trashed and I've been looking all over.

Tach works great, but I have to use the GPS to monitor my speed.

Kevin
That's my stock cluster. I used to have two extra ones, complete with tachs but the container they were in got water in it from the last big rainstorm.

Sorry, Chris, I guess I wasnt clear who I was asking about the speedo. I know the stock ones can be had from some vendors and probably off ebay also.

I was asking about the speedo in the cluster that the other guy built into the sheet metal. I would like to rebuild that part of my dash, replacing the speedo, tach, fuel and temp guage, adding oil pressure and voltage. I havent gone too far with it tho, because I cant find aftermarkets speedos.

I dont care about the odometer, it hasnt worked since I bought the sami, so who knows what the real mileage was then.... 138k on the odo.

That's good, I was kinda worried about you ;) The other ones look like Autometer. I like their Phantom series.
