I figured I could use the help of the brains of OSR on this.
I've been looking into building a replica De Lisle carbine from a bubba'd No1 MkIII. I've been looking at different pics of the magwell adapter for 1911 mags, and other things related. Trying to figure out what barrel to use.
The can would be fake, but being an SBR isn't an issue.

Well, you can do the rhineland arms conversion. Get the threaded barrel, then add on some sort of suppressor setup using the threaded end. Hack a stock on and weld some sights. Although, after doing a few of the rhineland conversions, god damn are they a pain in the ass.

Couple of my observations after doing them
-You REALLY need the receiver wrench for mausers. Some of these barrels are frozen the fuck on there and require a good amount of force. You can try heat, but you need to be careful.

-Getting the new magwell into the receiver is FUCK.ING.TEDIOUS. You have to hand file the mauser reciever and the magwell to get them to fit perfectly or else there is feeding issues.

-Youll have to tweak the mags you use to get it to feed correctly. If ever.

-The Little extractor they sell with the kit is engineered incorrectly. Its super flimsy and tends to break. So, if you do this kit order a few extras of these.

-If you start with one of the small ring turkish mausers, its more work to cut the receiver to fit the extractor. More work overall to fine tune the install. But, you can find these donors for like $100-$150. Starting with a Czech mausers, or god forbide a german mauser, you have less work. But expect to pay around $350 for one.

-Expect to have around 3-6 hours into just the receiver mods. Even before you get into the barrel shroud you want to hand make.


Or you can skip all that bullshit and just buy one of these.

Nobody makes the enfield kits anymore. Either because of lack of interest or mechanical issues, i dont remember which.

If you had your own machine shop to mill a magwell and extractor assembly, then cut a 45acp enfield barrel, its super easy! :flipoff2:

Otherwise, youre SOL.

I was thinking about doing something like using a thompson barrel, like the originals.

Got an email back from one of the companies I emailed:

"Thank you for your interest! I started working on a DeLile reproduction in the mid 1990's. Using photos & descriptions available in books I created a very close reproduction. Close enough to impress Herb Woodend of the British Pattern Room. He gave me a set of original blueprints. I used those to "tweak" my design even closer to the original.
I use the correct model/date Enfield No.1, MKIII receivers and their parts for the basis. They are back-bored to set the barrel back, and bolt assembly shortened per original DeLilse. Supressor can is 4130 steel (not original AL) so I could TIG weld the rear sight base, front sling attach, and fore-end attach instead of riveting- makes it MUCH stronger. Have fore-end rough cut out of Black Walnut by a local stockmaker. Barrels fabricated using match-grade blanks, made to correct dimensions (unlike Thompson barrels originally used). After testing, we decided to delete the barrel ports. They were included on the original prototype because it was in 9mm, and supersonic. Tests showed that in 45ACP the only difference was 50-75 fps. Since it was already sub-sonic, it was silly to sacrifice velocity.
magazines are fabricated from M1911 mags, exactly like the originals.
These carbines are very labor intensive, like the original ones. I usually only build several every year.

You are going forward with this, aren't you? I'd like one in 9mm just to piss off the 1911 guys. :grinpimp:

Ask for copies of the blueprints seeing as you have a line of conversation.
Myself I would bore out the barrel stub of the Enfield and use a 45 blank from anywhere (numrich, eBay, whatever) and set the headspacing and then cross pin it in the stub. I actually would try to do a full length barrel as it would make lining up the "suppressor housing" easier as it's an offset can.

The 303 is .540 at the rim and a 45 is .480 so the extractor and ejector should work, at worse you have to relieve the underside of the extractor at the bolt a title hair. This depends on if you are cutting back the bolt face, making a correct sized indent or...well there are lots of ways to skin this cat :laughing:

When I sent an email back, I asked for dimensions, measurements, etc.

Edit:
My plan would be running a "full length" barrel the length of the "suppressor".
