basically i am looking to put a full cage kit in my YJ...i have seen several people add the CJ smittybuilt kit for the padded dash,

but i have yet to see a picture of the CJ cage that's not for the padded cage

if anyone has pictures of the non-padded CJ style front hoop cage kits can you post them..or direct me to where i can find some

From looking in the catalog at the parts store it appears that the padded dash hoop is bent forward after it drops below the dash where the non padded version is a straight legged hoop. The pictures were not labeled very well so I won't swear to it.

If you want to run doors other than the Besttop soft doors, you have to get the padded dash kit. If you only run Besttop doors, you can get the non-padded dash kit and rin it directly in front of the speaker grills (I've heard that you can run hard doors as well, but the window cranks and vent windows are useless when the door is closed). Make sure before you weld it in place that your speakers are in the best condition you want them to be in, because after that cage is in, they will be even more of a bitch to change than they already are. (if that's important to ya)

I'm planning on doing the padded dash kit myself, even though for the majority of the year, I run Besttop doors, or none at all.

why would doors be a problem..both kits are made out of same size tubing, , i dont see how it will interfere with doors..i'm not affraid to cut the hell out of the plastic insides of my half doors in order for the cage to fit

The non padded dash kit would go right where the speaker grills are and thus are closer to the outside of the tub where the padded dash kit will actually come behind the dash pad and thus will be closer inboard of the tub. YJ doors (especially half hard doors) are pretty wide and impose on the interior of the tub (not flush with the tub like you'd expect).

Check it out for yourself... I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

I've got the padded dash kit in my YJ and my half doors touch the cage. Just close enough to touch, not crush the door. <IMG SRC="smilies/jeep1.gif" border="0">
