whats the differnce btween a v6 3rd member and a 4cyl. i have heard that they were stronger but what i am wondering is, are the ring and pinion gears interchangeable?
i know the 3rd members are but what about the gears?

I will have to disagree with that general of an answer you'll need to be alittle more specific like point out gear cut change in 86 to bearing changes and shiming mods to swap these gears around come on gearman don't let us down tell us what you know please <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

if he is useing stock gears from anything 86 and newer then use the brngs off 86 and newer it goes right together.

the pinion off an v6 is longer than a 4cyl

The 4 cylinder and V6 models are very similar, but the V6 3rd member uses much larger bearings, and has a beefier housing. The V6 3rd member is estimated to be 20% stronger than the 4 cylinder model.
