You can use a Cadillac El Derado rear calipers and CJ 7 rotors. Use the 7/8 inch rotors. There are other Cadillac calipers you can use, but I don't remember which ones. You will have to have the 9" axle shaft flanges machined down 1/8" to fit into the rotor cup. You can order weld on caliper brackets from a racing bracket company etc.
I am actually installing disc brakes on a 9" right now. I bought a kit from TSM in Colorado. I have it installed, I just need to make 2 new lines and I'm ready to put fluid in, bleed it and try it. I went the kit route because it's complete, bolts on, you get all the hardware, bolts, spacers etc. and I don't have the time or patience to scrounge junk yards or even auto parts stores trying to see what fits. There are three different bolt spacings on a 9" housing end, and TSM can help you figure out which your's is. You can find them in the back of any of the mags but their number is 303-688-6882. They're good guys.
how would i get a bigger opening on the rotors? any easy way?
If you know anyone with a milling machine or a lathe you can make short work of that.
would i be able to get rotor's off of a lincon to fit over the axle flange?
Maybe, But you will have to redrill the Lincoln rotors because they are a smaller bolt pattern.
Here is my 9" disk brake solution. This is the exact recipe I am using <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
One gusseted and trussed lincoln housing with all the trimmings (calipers, axles, rotors, and caliper brackets)
NOTE: This axle housing is known as one of the stronger 9" housing with big bearings <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
Separate stock axles making sure to keep the caliper brackets and collar that held them onto the axle.
Mix in one strange nodular centersection and one 35 spline spool.
Use gearing of choice with fresh bearings.
Measure old axles and order custom 35 spline axled with bolt pattern of your choice and the flange measurements that will allow the Lincoln calipers to be used.
Redrill lincoln Rotors to bolt pattern choice you decided on earlier.
Mix and put all parts together on garage floor using nuts bolts and 90wt oil.
and Wualla you now have yourself a nice sturdy rear axle.
It would be better to machine down the axle flange rather than the rotor cup because of strength issues. If you machined the cup too thin you could have a mess if it gave way. I think it cost me $10 to have 2 axle flanges machined down 1/8 of an inch. The CJ rotors are already 5x5.5 and will slide right over the flange after the machining. A weld on caliper bracket for a small GM cost me $7.00 each (don't remember the name of the company, but can be found) and $25 for 2 Cadillac calipers. The stock YJ e brake cable can be adapted easily to work with the Cadillac e brake system.
