I have a gift card to Autozone so I was going to get some brute force u-joints to replace the stocker 297s in my front axle. I know Brute Force makes an equivalent to the Spicer 297 (1-0297BF), but does anyone know if they have updated the part number and now have a 760 equivalent? I searched for cross references to Spicer here and on Google and it appears that their most up to date u-joint for that axle is still the 297 equivalent.

dude get them...there is nothing wrong with them and since your gift card covers Autozone...then Hey you are a free product tester.

I got the Brute Force from Autozone and they are what are still under my on both sides of the axle.

No problems yet.

I have run Brute Force joints. They break. They are/were also warrentied for life. Save your receipt.

Biggest problem I have had returning them was to hand them the old u-joint for return still in a broken 'shaft. My reasoning was "WTF should I take it out of the shaft? They're both broken." They took it.

Spicer makes a better *POP* when they break though.:p

I was a dumb fawk and kept replacing shafts b/c I got the "warranty" on the joints I broke (5 in one season). dumb, dumb, dumb! did I learn, kind of. I decided to go w/ another warranted joint...............CTM's; what do you know no more breakage.

moral of the story, stay away from the BF!

Ditto above.. Get Spicer. or just Dana 60's and be done with the shit. I had the Brute Force in my D30 broke once then went back to the Spicer..Then figured FAWK IT, and got 60's..
What good is a warranty if you got to replace the joint every time you put a load on it???? I learned the hard way...Pay attention

Well Then....

I guess I just don't fully GET IT AWN like you boys do:rolleyes:

I think that you guys are missing the point...we are talking about a 13.00 replacement over stock. Definately not a 1$$.00 CTM joint or WARN shaft...but an equal too hair better than stock joint.

The other comment about "ohh...I broke A joint...did'nt want to do that again so I went Dana60..." COME ON...13.00 joint being compared to a 1$$$.00 or so upgrade.

The joints are what they are. A decent replacement for a stock joint and an even better trail spare. I have seen and or destroyed holy Spicer parts just as quick as a no name rusty used junk yard joint...so go on...

Looking at a couple of the rigs that are busting the Brute Force joints on this thread and it is no wonder? A mild improvement over stock coupled with 37" plus boggers and lots of gears...hahahaha:laughing:

35s (small MT/Rs) are the max I will ever run on this axle and I have had it locked for 2+ years and never broken anything. I'm not just gonna go and slap 60s under my ZJ so I don't have to worry about u-joints...a bit excessive, eh? Well I got the BF joints last night (for free w/ the gift card) so we'll see how they hold up. Should be fine for as much as I wheel anyways (twice a month at best). If I pull out of the driveway and I break one, then I'll say "you guys told me so", but until then I'm not worried. Thanks for the advice though.

I've used 297 series Brute Force brand before. Haven't broken one, then again, I don't drive like an ass either. If it aint rocks, you shouldn't be breaking things like U-joints if you know how to drive. ;)

Meaning - when I start asking the front end to do something and it feels like it doesn't like it. I pull cable. It's just not worth the time for a trail fix, just to say I tried to get over a little rock or something.

Ill never buy brute force again. They didnt live 3 months under my rig before i snapped one. But you cant beat the price if they are free. Maybe you will have better luck than me.

Yeah...I am defending the joints man...I mean for the price, and like WALDHER mentioned, knowing the limits...They rock...

I have them under my Scout because of this and have no complaints. Plus I have DRIVELIKEANASSATTIMESTOSIS

Well, at the time I was running 33's. And the puny-assed joints are just that. :D Going to 60's was my next step anyways, so I used that as an excuse to upgrade.
Funny though, people like you are always on the trail bragging on how you never break this, and how many years you have had this joint in your lunchbox vehicle. Then you may finally break something and then take the whole day to fix it, while holding up everyone on the trail. Then, you probably have to borrow tools/parts, because you think your tough (warrantied U-joints that are just a "hair weaker" ) u-joints aren't going to let you replace them.
That's 'cause the ears on the shafts are all mangeled from your "hair weaker" u-joints.

BUT...You did get a free replacement U-joint back at the shop where you bought it..

Wise up man... Listen to what these people are telling you.. They are even being polite for a change..
