Peter,
I believe the arms are cast steel so welding is not much of a problem. when I built mine a freind of mine who is a professional welder & machinist gave me some hints. he said to weld the base w/ alot of penetration & BIG welds. he then said to lightly weld the 1/2" plate strut to the arms, full length. I put about a 3/16" bead on them w/ w/ about 1/8"-3/16" penetration. I did this & my arm is extremely strong & I have had no problems w/ it cracking & bending what so ever. I wheel that heavy truck pretty hard.I built mine similar to the www.sierrarockcrawlers.com steeering arm. my arms are fj60 arms so there a little stronger than mini truck arms but much stronger than pre-80 fj40 arms. If youve got any questions just let me know.

HTH

one other thing I forgot to mention is that cooling the arm in sand is a good idea. Do Not quench it w/ water. that was one other thing my buddy recomended to me to keep the arm from getting too brittle.

Thet're cast arms so you must weld DC- and you should preheat the metal. It's not something you can risk having break so if I were you I'd go to a welding shop and have it TIG welded. Let us know how it turns out.

Peter, you can send me the arms along with some height clearance info and I'll build you a double steering arm. I'm not sure if I ever really paid you back for all that junk you gave me.
I've done a couple for some of the guys in the club and I also did mine. I use a very fat 3/4" plate steel gusset for support, do the right preheat and lay a very confident bead.
I've punished it severely this summer and it loves it!
Give me a call or send me an e-mail.
