I need to shorten the front shaft on my Blazer. Because I am a poor sap, someone loaned me a stock shaft to use until I can get mine done. Here's what puzzles me. The stock shaft came out of a mid to late 70s K5 350/350/203 with a D44 front. My rig is a 72 with a 350/350/205 and a D44. I also have a 4" susp. lift. Why is this stock front shaft longer than the one I took out of my lifted truck ?

There ya go right there.

The 203 has the gear reduction box in front of the transfer box (chain) and that makes it longer than the 205 which is all in one neat package. Therefore the shaft must be longer on the 203 truck
