I have an '85 Toyota with a 4" lift, 33" tires and 5.29's. When I am going from drive to coast from 60mph to about 52mph I hear this loud vibration like sound coming from the rear end. It only happens in these exact conditions. Is it probably my driveline? Is it serious? What should I do?

I have a similar problem on my Rodeo.I lifted mine 3" and I got a vibe as well. What I found out was that due to the lift it through my driveline out of whack and could and most likely will destroy my carrier bearing. If you have a carrier bearing then that would most likely be a place to start.

Could be the carrier bearing but sounds more like a U-joint going out. Crawl under there and grab the driveline and see if you can feel any slop as you twist and pull on it.

It if fails completely at highway speed, it can be very serious.

Its called gear rattle- it can cause problems over time- it can be fixed with a c/v driveline and proper pinion angles all the time- Jesse :D

Jess, I know you like your enigmatic, short posts, but please add:
New CV, proper pinion angle, which means swapping driveshaft, which means getting nice clean new u-joints and yokes, and getting the t-case and pinion flanges tightened. *ALL* of this will fix it. The fact is, for now, he can just get the driveshaft worked over and it'll probably fix it (balanced, new u-joints, GREASED)

All this assumes he doesn't have something going on in the rear-end, and just hasn't noticed the gear whine at low speeds...

RubiRed, do you FEEL the vibration too?

By the way, I'm not a he.

I do feel a slight vibration but it sounds worse than it feels. Then again it really isn't that loud. I just notice it. I just bought this truck and was told that the drive line was re-done.
