First forgive me for some of the poor quality photos. Secondly forgive me if this is a bit long winded......

My Willys started off as a 77 Trans Am. Kid I worked with had this hideous bright orange Willys and wanted to make a trade. Well I went for it having always wanted a flatfender. That was in 1993.....

Almost 19 years later, the only remaining part from that original Jeep is a Buick bellhousing hanging from my shop wall. The original specs were:

odd fire 225
Saginaw car 4 speed (horrible off road) hooked to a D18
half worn 33's
D41/D25

Without boring you with too much detail, I stumbled upon a early 70's CJ5 that was being parted out. I swapped in the 44/30, the T14 and the D20. I covered up the horrid orange with red primer, and swapped to the New England favorite - 34x9.5 Swampers. I ran around like this for a couple years. The frame cracks and shoddy repairs really started to catch up. Keep in mind this was my only vehicle at the time. I drove it every day. With a young family - not to bright on my part.

In any case a rebuild was in order. A 69 CJ frame was located. I blasted it and welded straps on the top and bottom with my 1st welder - a Lincoln Weldpak from the Home Depot. Messing around with the spring mount netted me a wheelbase of 84 inches. My best friend Eric repaired a Willys body beautifully to replaced the hacked and decrepit tub. This brings us up to about 1999. These are what I remember as the Tekoa (local wheeling spot) days.

This first couple of pictures covers those 6 or so years.

Around '99 is when we assembled the new frame and body. I got fancy things like disc brakes from a 79 CJ. I scored a SM420 from a friend that was sending it to the scapped. I also swapped to a D300 for better gearing. Later that year we (Eric and I) hacked up a Waggy 44 and swapped that in as well.

Swamper Sx's were added and we made the 1st of many trips to Tellico. That 1st trip to Tellico ended up with me doing a 2 and a half gainer on trail 9 - Slickrock. The brand new straight as an arrow body was no longer straight.

It wasn't long after that I saw a buggy called Pinky. Wrangler leaves and buggy springs were added......and we discovered a place called Paragon and the fad of Jeep stacking.

Fast forward a couple years......

Tires changed to 37 MTR's which promptly broke every axle shaft at least twice. A Dana 60 with 35 splines was built for the rear. Alloy shafts went into the 44. Somewhere in there a 3.8 even fire with an AFI kit ended up under the hood.

At some point, even though the rig worked great, I got the brilliant idea that i needed big axles and tires. My friend Carl and I proceeded to cut the rig in half and add 16 inches behind the door opening. A GM 60 front and a 14 bolt went in. 42 inch Swampers gave way to 42 inch Iroks on Hummer wheels. All the work was done in a one car garage under my house.

Honestly - at this point I thought I ruined my rig. it was up to 4300 pounds, was a slug with V6 power and in general just felt cumbersome. But it was what it was. I lived with it until I could do something about it a few years later.....

The miserable monster stage.......

Back in 1993 I met some guys from Eastern Four Wheelers....do you know them ?
I would love to get in contact again with them....if Im not wrong the president of the Club was Dave something and he drove a early 4 Runner

Dave Brill. I was a member of Eastern for a while. I bet I could find him for you. I'll check around.

Actually we went wheeling with some members of the club...it was February...wayyy cold. I think I have some photos in paper.

I found one picture, but I know I have more, one in particular, of you on top of some mountain, it's a great picture, I even looked at it recently, just can't find it now.

That's about right judging by the old RE 8000 Ramsey...:p

I did some work on my neighbor's CJ5 and got that winch in trade. That was a great winch-slow as death but you couldn't stall that damn thing. It would tear your rig inhalf if you let it.

Subscribed! I met you at the Summit trail cut this spring and fell in love with your Willys. I also got a really good picture of it but I'll wait to post when you show the jeep in its current state:smokin:

Just found a whole box of old pictures.....including the very first Willys run held in Charlemont MA. I'll post more up this afternoon.

The New Jersey crew will like this.

Always wondered what happened to the rest of the Village People...
Take some pics of the 3B restoration Fat Boy! That thing has way more history than mine. Your grandfather bought it NEW in 53!! Talk about family history....
