Say someone were to plug the line from the EGR valve, would you need to readjust the idle afterwards? I am asking for a friend who lives outside of CA . Hypothetically the thing has a noticeable amount of extra power now.

as far as i know the egr valve is there to burn any excess fumes at high rpm's. right?!
should not affect your idle as long as the vacuum hose is capped.

i've been told that disconnecting it will add some power.

yup, the only time that small vacume line should be drawing vacume is at higher RPM's. thats when the egr is opened and allows exuast gasses to be recirculated back into the intake.

I say plug it

The EGR valve re-routes some of the exhaust gasses back through the intake to be reburned.

Ken, your friend may have to fiddle with the ignition timing a little, as the EGR can effect the mixture, as it introduces intert gases back into the combustion chamber. In other words, there may be some pinging once the EGR is removed from the system.

My friend hasn't noticed any pinging, it just seems to idle to high. I haven't thrown the tach meter on it yet because that would be more accurate than trusting the 17 year old factory tach. What's up ToyTech how's the motor swap going?

Um, maybe the EGR disconnection caused a vacuum leak - ie not fully plugged? That would cause a high idle. Just a thought

There shouldn't be any EGR @ idle, but then again, if the VSV isn't working right, or the vacuum lines are mis-routed to a manifold vacuum source, yeah, that may raise the idle speed.

Ken, the motor swap is stalled at the moment (no pun intended ). I think we're going to concentrate on swapping the '60's 2F into the FJ40, since the old F'er is wheezing it's last dying breath

If you can't figure out your '60, maybe you can bring it by Brink Motors next week
