I'm looking for some pics of how you trimmed/modified/installed; either the Lincoln Mark VIII, Mystic, or Taurus electric fans into your CJ. The search turned up a few installed pics, but didn't find any 'how to' threads.

I've got about 4.25" of clearance from the grill shell to the front of the waterpump pulley. My stock Mustang fan hangs below the lower radiator tank.:shaking:


Also, any user feedback on the Flex-A-Lite part 575, dual 12" CJ fan? Kind of pricey, but would like an evaluation if you've got one.

The radiator core is set forward about 3/8" inside the grill shell. So I'd say there is a good 4.5" of room from the pulley face to the core.

Note: This is a 4 row from Extreme Radiator, they could give me a bit more room for the mechanical fan by moving the core forward. Unfortunately, the stock 'stang fan is too large, so rather than use a smaller fan, I'm thinking electric.

Good looking project. But I didn't see any pics of how you really mounted it to the radiator/grill shell. And you mentioned something about a custom shroud, but never saw that.

Any more pics?

And anyone got pic in a CJ?

The Taurus fan & shroud is smaller then the Lincoln MK VIII. The Lincoln shroud measures 18"x22"x3". (I can get a depth with the motor included if you would like.) You can trim off all of the plastic brackets and use your own. I just make some simple L brackets. The shroud covers 100% and then a bit of my YJ radiator. You can trim some of the material so the shroud isn't as wide with a jigsaw or sawzall.

So is that a pic of the Taurus or the Lincoln fan? Does the shroud fit against the core or does it rest on the radiator mounting brackets?

Mine is a Lincoln MK VIII. The shroud is supported by the brackets. The shroud is big enough that it won't fit between the tanks as you can sorta see. The shroud covers the seam the tanks.

I've seen guy's cut the should lip down a few inches so the fan sits closer to the core. Keep in mind though the fan is 18" unlike the Taurus 16" fan. Making your own brackets is simple. The hardest part is adjusting the shroud so it fits your radiator. You'll want to know what your core measures before buying one.

MG and Jeffy, thanks for the replies! Looks like I'm heading to the JY this week to locate a fan.

I'll do some Hack Fab'n on it and see if I like the way it looks/fits.

Hack,

Man that engine compartment of yours looks great. Keep up the good work.

After lowering my Jeep's body onto the frame a bit, clearance was extra tight for me and I thought the solution was a Tauras fan, so I went to the wreckers & bought the same one as Mean Green has. It was way to thick to stuff inbetween the water pump pulley (350) and the rad.

I was desperate & this is what I did:

I pulled the shroud off & was able to get it to fit to the one side of the rad nicely. Better than no fan at all right? I then made 3 brackets outta bar-stock, that mount to the 3 screw holes as seen on MeanGean's pic above.







I have 2 brackets to the grill, one to below the grills crossmember.
I know it looks weird, but it just may work with a shroud to go over top.

And I might just do something similar, although I'm thinking that if I have to, I'll pull the fan from the OEM shroud. Then Hack Fab up a new shroud out of either steel or aluminum that will also act as the mount.

I'm running the Taurus fan as well, and my 360 offers less space than your 350 does...it also looks like we have a very similar 3 core radiator. What I did was...remove my radiator and mounted it on the inside of the grill rather on the out side...this gained me roughly a 1/4 inch. Than with some very light trimming to the shroud, I was able to to sit the entire fan and shroud inside the top and bottom lip of the radiator...this gained me another 1/4 inch. Than I fastened the entire assembly to the radiator with 5 fan straps, "they look like long zip ties with a flat surface at either end". You drill a small hole in the shroud and slide the strap through your shroud and radiator and fasten it on the other side...$5 at any auto parts store.
And no offence, but running your fan without the shroud is almost totally worthless.

Okay, check at a local JY and found a decent Mark VIII that wasn't hit in the front. I'm going to have them pull the fan tomorrow and I'll start another threat with the Hack Fab install.

That's a clean looking build. Good luck on the fan.

Here are some picts of what I was talking about on how to make the shroud slimmer. Oh, you'll probably want the plug end of the fan as well. Hopefully they will cut off the whole plug for you. This makes it easier to take out if you need to rather then having everything hardwired into place. I use my fan on the Lo speed circuit, but it still blows a lot of air. You'll probably want to tinker around with it and see if you need to set up the hi-speed circuit. If you run the lo only, you won't need the high-amp relay. Otherwise, you'll want to run it.

Thanks, I'm going to make certain the if the yard pulls it (as opposed to allowing me do it), that the shroud doesn't get all fawk'd up. And that they give me as much of the harness on the body side that they can.

I'm going to try and wire it so both speed work. I've got some more research to do, becuase there is a way that my EEC-IV computer can control the fan on/off.

4 inches is plenty. I installed a Ford Contour on Mine. The contour is less than 4 inches. No trimming required to install on a CJ radiator. A little more cfm than the taurus.
