I have my Toyota electric locker installed and wired up in the front of my S.A. 4Runner. My question is can I "lock it up" while rolling or do I have to be stopped? I would hate to bust the sucker because I tried to lock it while rolling down the trail. It is not the reverse rotation FJ unit, my locker came from the rear of a 4Runner. <IMG SRC="smilies/usa.gif" border="0">

Well, my experience has been the truck needs to be moving. Most of the time it won't lock up from a standing, but locks up pretty quick once there is some diff action. Same for unlocking.

I lock mine all the time when I'm rolling up to an obstacle. I just make sure I'm not turning, or doing anything to put any real torque on the locking mechanism while it's engaging.

In other words, don't worry too much about it. As long as you aren't flicking it on when you're standing on the gas, spinning and smoking the tires, it'll be just fine. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Mine seems to take a long time to engage, and most of the time, I have to rock it a bit to engage. I have 4:10 gears and stock tranny/tcase still with 35" boggers so I seem to hesitate at the bottom of obstacles while I wait for the locker to engage...

I have no problems getting them to lock up, my problem was getting the rear to unlock!! I think it just gets bound up and I need to unload the pressure on it. But as for locking, I'm with the above and jsut lock it while going slow up to an obstacle. BTW, since I have installed the front one and gotten rid of the tru trac, I have had no breakage. I did things this past weekend that I think would have broken a birfields if I still had the Tru Trac.
