I am building a '79 CJ-5.I got this jeep for free but the body was shot and stripped down.I swapped on a '75 tub and all the related parts.I currently don't have a wiring harness in the tub.I have the engines wiring harness in it.It has the '79 drivetrain still 258 with 3 speed and 20 t-case.Anyway I want to start the engine just to see if it runs.It was running when my buddy bought it for parts.I have all but 2 wires connected a red with green and a brown wire with one strand in it.I hook a battery to it and jump the soleniod and it just clicks, this is with a second rig with jumper cables.Where do these 2 wires connect and any suggestions would help. Thanks Blazin

Would be more helpfull if you tell us what the other end of the wires are attached to. (All my wires are solid red or solid black)

Besides if you are directly jumping the solonoid and all it does is click, then the solonoid is obviously bad or jammed.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's the excitation wire for the alternator. Goes to the "switched" side of the solenoid I think. Can't help you with the other.

Actually I would say. Who cares what they go to. If all you want to do is start the thing. You aren't getting enough power to the starter if it is just clicking. Try getting it more juice somehow. If you have gas and power to your coil. It should fire up.
