This being a 92, it will store codes, try jumping the TE to E1 terminals on your diagnostic check connector with a paper clip or something. Check your flash codes, let me know if you don't have a chiltons, haynes, or Toyota service manual and I'll look it the code up for you. From what your discribing, your air flow meter might wigging out, or there my be unmetered air going past the AFM from a cracked or not hooked up air tube.
