I'm building my YJ and am pretty much set on the EO weld in cage because of the price, but i still havn't seen any good pictures of it. Has anyone used this cage or have any pictures of it?
It comes with the front hoop and 4 spreader bars and i will be adding seat bars and 5 point harness bars along with a rear spreader bar and other support bars but i think i can get those bars locally since they weill be staright pieces.
any opinions are welcome
i searched and surprisingly theres not much info
thanks

You might check into Tenessee Off Road cages too. I got an EOR cage for my TJ and am happy with it. I think TOR looked 10% better. This was only pictures I saw.

I have a couple of pics of my TJ cage if you are interested. That might give you some kind of idea. Let me know.

the TOR cage only comes with a cross bar and 2 legs and 2 spreaders so the hoop is pieced together, I Guess and it comes with foot plates. The EOR cage has a front hoop and 4 spreaders and foot plates so i'm thinking the EOR cage is better.
I want a real cage not a sport one to look good. Do i have to go to a special shop to make one or can i build one from the EOR cage and a few extra bars and frame tie in kits.

You are probably right. The TOR cage was a thought as I was having after working on a springover all day. The YJ cage looks a lot different after I saw the pic. Good Luck.

I don't think anyone can argue to much either way wich of these designs is better, though some feel the setup with front and rear hoop is a little more stable side to side, but both are very functional in a full roll. Also if you think about it they are VERY similar they both have 4 bars front to back and 1 cross bar in the front if I'm getting your explination right.

Hey Rock Ready

Are you looking to do this in your YJ or your XJ?

If its for your YJ go with what i did. I bought the smittybuilt CJ bar for the (CJ with padded dash model) and it fits in the YJ like a glove! Nice and snug between the doors and the dash pad. Check my site here for pics and such

BTW

I paid $135 for the front hoop with 2 spreaders and $25 for 2 extra spreaders which i ended up giving to my buddy

I also installed the speaders backwards for more head room! (I am 6'4")

Mangler, Where did yo get your smittybuilt cage? Do you know what its made of. I'm looking for a solid begining for my full cage and if i have to pay for a better product i will but if the smitty is good the i'm not opposed to saving a 100 bucks
any info is helpfull
thanks

Rockready, I think the Essentially Off Road cage is very strong. i dont think shittybuilt has anything thats strong. I have seen shittybuilt stuff grill gaurds rust like mad. I have a EOR cage in my TJ too. And its one of the first 4 they made. I love it. I just ordered the frame tie in kit and it should be her either today or tomorrow. They use .120 dom tube. and Rocky, is the man! Tell Linda you know Dave> DRM> from the internet. She gets a kick out of everyone knowing him.

Go with whichever cage has the larger diameter tubing , that uses at least d.o.m. tube not hrew this will up the price a little but its cheaper than brain surgery , the reason is that in an extreme rollover the hrew can split along the welded seam . Pick the one that has the straightest legs, more bends = weak !

I put the EO cage in my YJ tied it into the frame and added the extra center bars and it is sweet. The only challenge is if you still use the e brake. Give the pedal a tweak and all is well.

Forgot all about the smitty built cage! however I would not sell the extra spreaders to a freind but use them like they are designed to be used. Also those who question the strength they are made from just about the same material everyone else uses, and the one in my dads CJ-7 saved his life when he decided to lose control and jump it off an imbankment. Definatly the worst roll I've seen(some of you may have seen it 3-4 years ago a red CJ-7 totally trashed on the back of a AAA flatbed going down away from robbs resort) and the cage held up pretty damn well seeing ass the motor was stuck up into the COWL
