I'm needing a little more power for pulling with my TJ, I know it's not a tow vehicle. I pull a little 4x8 trailer with my atv on it. About 800lbs. I have a 2001 Tj with 32x11.5x15. I know they are not massive but I live in Indiana and we don't need huge amounts of ground clearance, more lower center of gravity for the hills &
ravines. Anyhow, I'm needing a little more power for 2nd and 3rd and 5th on the highway. My current gears are 3.73.

My Question is I can either buy the Gale Banks torque tube header and cat back for about 680.00 or new 4.10 gears for 425.00 + installation (250-300.00)

So what should I do? I've done all the searches on Banks and Cannot find anyone who has actual got this same combo.

Any help would be helpful..

I'd go with the gears. I have yet to see an exhaust system that, by itself, nets big power gains on a gas engine. And at least with the gears you'll be ready to step up to larger tires when the time comes. But then again, I would have posted this in newbie tech, so JMHO YMMV. Welcome to the board:flipoff2:

installation on gears is going to be about $250-$300 PER AXLE.

i've installed 4 Banks headers and the performance gains are minimal. they are noticeable...but nothing to get excited about. if your header cracks, i strongly recommend the Banks headers, they are great.

i'd go with 4.10's if you plan on staying with 32" tires. otherwise, go to 4.56's.

Thanks for the input, I've decited to go with the 4.10`s. I found a local shop with a good mech that will do it for 200.00 per axle. So I'm looking more around 800-850.00 total.

I was hoping someone would say the exhaust worked better so I coould save some money for other goodies.

Maybe I'll see you guys and gals at the Badlands this spring..

Now do I want 4.10 or 4.56?
I'd go with the 4.56's if it were me. Realistically if you are on this board, your truck is probably looking at some larger tires at some point...... whether it is in the plans right now or not. These mods have a way of ambushing you so that the people that say "i'll never go over 33's" are the same people pushing 42's a few years later.

TJ's come with what, 30" tires stock? So the 32's are already 7% over stock. 4.10's are about 10% deeper than stock......... so swapping them in with your current tires will put you about 3% over stock RPM at any given speed.

4.56's are about 22% deeper than stock, so running them with your current tires will put you about 15% over stock RPM's at any given speed. So if you are used to running 2500 RPM on the interstate, you'll be running 2875 RPM at that same speed.

But if you put on some 33's down the road, you would only be 12% over stock RPMs, or only 5% over stock RPM's with 35's.

I'm with Matt.......... if you honestly think you won't be getting larger tires in the future, go with the 4.10's. Otherwise, go with the 4.56's

4.10's. with 32's or 33's.

I put 4.56's in when I had 33's. It was a little too low. Worked great in the Sierra's, sucked on the freeway. Like 4.56's with 35's a lot more.

Running 37's I should bump to 4.88's though.
