If it came out of an F150 than it isn't a Sterling. It would be an 8.8. Easy way to tell, besides picking them up... the Sterling has a 10.25" ring gear, the 8.8 is....well 8.8". Thats enough of a difference that you can guess. Also if there is still a tag on the diff, I can tell you what it is..

An 8.8 has a fairly flat cover and a sterling is huge. A 5 bolt sterling hasn't been offered until about 98 or so.

i have a tag for it,just not with me . thats what the dealer was looking at when he said sterling. the axle looks beefy, like the big brother to a 44. the housing about 11 in.from snout to end and a couple more for the cover.tubes 3 to 3.5 in. round ? did not measure that. cover has nice flat edges but a big bump for the ring gear, like a 44. i'll get the tag numbers tomorrow. thanx for the help.

got the tag
first line numbers S814P
second line is 355 A88 8D20
this is not a full or semi float axle. just 5 on 5.5 lug normal axle. this is all i have on it, just need to now what the #!#!#[email protected]! it is. and if it is worth putting under a jeep as an upgrade from a m20 axle. do they have aftermarket gears for it and lockers,so on and so forth. thanxs for any help.

thanx for the help. but to my defense, i said beefy "like a BIG brother to a 44 " but obviously bigger than d20 on my hind end impersonating an axle. again thanx.
