I keep hearing that all the tech has gone to FB. I hate that. Be it as it is though, what are the best pages / people to be following to stay up with the times?

It sucks though. Its just pictures, which is good but bad too. The discussions aren't as good or easy to follow as they are here.

Chit-Chat :flipoff2:

I'm hoping it is just a phase and will cycle away from the Facebook style/format into anything else. even if it isn't pirate.

that said, it also seems like the hobby is still growing and there are simply tons of people out there who don't have the interest in posting on the internet outside of maybe a picture or two. so much tech is easily searchable and the novelty of the internet is pretty well worn.

i'm just a luddite but it was neat 20 years ago to be able to share things without carrying pictures in your wallet or on a polaroid. nowadays, it just is a thing like a toaster oven or a television, sits on in the background.

Howso? This is a Gen Tech section. I'm trying to find out where the tech went ...
i'd say chit-chat because it isn't a tech thread, just lamenting the dwindling participation in tech threads :flipoff2:

it takes time to post and document a build, people don't want to take the time. facebook is short attention spanned, i don't know of any multi-year or even multi day threads on facebook that are presented in a way that makes them easily searchable or organized.

there are pictures of what people are working on and advertisements but as far as tech, it falls off too fast.

just my experience

what kind of tech do you feel is missing out? it has been years long since big budget builds got detailed tech threads on them here, i don't know if it is because racers are trying to maintain a competitive advantage or they don't see the value.

If it's chit-chat then beat95yj can move it and I won't be offended, nor am I offended that you said it. No big deal.

Everyone just keeps saying in all the threads that everything has gone to FB. I have FB (begrudgingly) but I don't see much tech or even many pics there. So I guess the only explanation is that I haven't liked the right pages or friended the right people? I'm not even sure I'm explaining that right because I find FB to be one of the most complex, user-unfriendly sites on the net, just from a usability standpoint. So I guess I'm doing something wrong.

I agree and so i'm probably not anything other than a sympathetic porch rocker with you

for example, the 4500 steering tech thread could NEVER have been what it is on facebook instead of a forum. even a blog could have been good or a magazine style tech article, but there would be none of the effective back and forth that resulted in much more clarification as well as tech and evolution.

facebook prioritizes things based on how much you interact with them or something. if you don't seek out individual pages even after you have liked and followed them, you could easily not see anything they post in your regular news feed.

If you sign up for notifications when they do post, you'd log in with a shit-ton of notifications to the point that they are useless.

then you get hooked in to something that you've interacted with, and that will be all that you see...and holy fuck do people post stupid shit constantly. there is too much bullshit that the larger "tech" pages are just overwhelmed so, again it takes significant effort to wade through all the "what does 8+5=" and "what cup will fill up first" and "tee-hee i'm a girl!" posts.

even as an example of what i'd consider a well run page, Roadkill for the youtube show/motor trend on demand. They can post up a video or tech article or a couple reasonable things and then have 150 comments that are the same question and totally off topic. facebook has a weird way of prioritizing comments so without some effort it is difficult to know what they hell is going on in the comments section. Everybody just resorts to one liners and hooks.

Might as well watch politicians give rallies with the lack of substance :rasta:

I hate FB. I know many do. I realize its shortcomings. But this thread wasn't really supposed to be about that. Just trying to find out where all these pics / whatever are that I am missing, be they of little info or whatever. I'm just getting little to none of it right now. Anything is better than nothing.

Its too scattered and personal for just tech. You gotta take the "Ohh Im eating at a fancy restaurant" pics with the random shop shots.

You will never find much real tech on Facebutt. Facebutt is for showing off and other faggotry, not tech.

Sorry, i talk a lot :rasta:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/rockcrawlingclassifieds/

rock crawling classifieds isn't tech, but is kind of like it

https://www.facebook.com/rockcrawlingisnotacrime/

is not a crime isn't tech, but kind of is if you want it to be

those are the two largest that i know of

other than that, what companies do you like their stuff? what builders do you think make neat things? just gotta like and follow them and then deliberately check their pages to get updates

for example, things like those. there are a ton more, but if you don't regularly "like" or visit or comment on the posts from the pages then facebook will just not show you any of their stuff in your feed.

i'm on a rather small (couple hundred member) dodge van page that can actually have some good tech on it, but that is because the pool is small enough that the bullshit doesn't get enough attention to stick around. on the down side, if you get something that nobody knows offhand, there can be a good delay to getting a response or dialogue

thinking about this more....

https://www.facebook.com/filthymotorsports/

has done a helluva job with CRAWLpedia - The Off-Road Encyclopedia and they've even got it linked/tagged whatever in a thread on pirate shock shootout and i've found myself ending up at the crawlpedia site for tech a few times over the last year or two or so. a pretty good layout for searching tech along with http://www.billavista.com/Tech/ covers pretty much everything you could want to know between those two sites to scratch build a rock crawler

FB popsting

I'm no tech guy. Why can't you up load to P 4x4 like face book with phones. I hate wasting so much time to post here? The picture up loading Sucks on P 4x4

Someone told me it's easy to post FB. People will never find any of that tech when someone come up with a better FB.

So why not update the P 4x4 site to make posting from phone????

you can upload to pirate, but you need to have a membership subscription.

granted, i'd love to see that go away and just reduce the star program to a $10 donation to BRC if you want a star by your name and avatar, but free up the photo hosting and message limits. storage isn't expensive these days
