Starting in '87, chevy v-8s used roller tappet cams, so if it is newer than that you won't need high zddp oil. Does oil in europe have the low zddp formula the US has now? Maybe it's still good there. I know the older Porsche 911 aircooled engines need high zinc oil, so there must be good oil or supplements available. Otherwise order supplements from Ebay or Summit or someone who will ship it over.

Hello,

the engine is brand new GM crate motor, but it still has flat tappet cam according to specifications. Not sure can i just use a good quality oil and put ZDDP additive i can buy on ebay. I tried sending e-mails to all major oil suppliers of engine oil in Europe (Castrol, Eneos, Mobil, Valvoline...), all said they dont have compatible oil

I would like to avoid ordering oil from USA.

Yes you can use a zddp supplement with low zinc oil. Apparently the current part number is 12568758, and it's the same as the 12681430, 87-95 TBI truck engine. The specs here on this ebay page do say flat tappet, which I find surprising, maybe even a typo. I thought those were exactly the engines that went to hydraulic roller cams. In any event, it is a very low performance engine with a low lift/duration cam, and it would probably be fine even on low zddp oil. But you could also search locally for oil that meets the Porsche air cooled 911 spec, and that would be ideal oil if it really is a flat tappet cam.

Im also surprised it is a flat tappet engine, since this are not rebuilt but brand new engines. The GM site also says flat tappet, so im afraid it is not a typo.

I will buy ZDDP plus additive and good quality oil. The only oil that could be compatible i found in Europe is Royal Purple HSP, but that oil is 3 times more expensive than Mobil for example.
