Well, the axle is coming along s-l-o-w-l-y. All the coil and radius arm brackets are gone and ground smooth, and the three steering stops that came off with the coil mounts have been replaced with fabbed ones. The very bottoms of the radius arm mounts have been left in place, as these will help accurately position the leaf spring perches side-to-side and create a solid baseline for setting the castor angle. Next is cutting out the bottom of the pumpkin for extra clearance, then armor plating the diff and possibly fabbing a gusset (3"x3" square tubing) across the front of the whole housing. After all the cutting and welding is done I'll have the thing hot tanked.

The 80 birf is about 4-1/16" in diameter.

Yes, the CVs are considerably larger. In the range of 110mm - which is a large joint. They share the same cage and balls(sorry) as the 86.5+ Supra. The IFS CVs I measured were in 90 - 95mm range, the same size as a VW Rabbit. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> Are the regular mini truck SA CVs the same size as IFS?

No, the IFS CV's are a little bigger believe it or not, due to having to run at compound angles.

Wow, that's good to know. If I ever bust a cage and not the whole joint I know where to get another one. Those 80 birfs aren't exactly easy to come by.

Oh yeah, the inner part that the axle slides into is also same, splines and all. Only the cup is different.

I have a disassembled Supra joint and figured a comparison couldn't hurt.... now we have cheap spares, sort of.

That's really good, usually the star and the cage are what go first anyhow. If you stop driving right away the cup would probably survive.

Not easy, gave all the yards in CA a call every month or so, then ran across a yard on the east coast that had a few bent ones and had a pallet of them shipped to CA. (sold the 3rds and kept the birfs/shafts for spares)

8" Wider with stronger birfs. I did have an EL but don't trust it as much as a full-on Detroit & sold it.
