What could be the cause of foamy power steering fluid. I have noticed that my pump makes a consideranle amount of noise when it is cold out, but now all of a sudden I noticed some fluid on the outside of my pump and fluid seeping out from under the cap on my reservoir, so I opened up my reservoir and it was all foamy inside. It has never looked like this. I know my pump has been on it's last leg for quite sometime, but could it have finally kicked the bucket? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Which leads me to suspect that my pump is going bad, and somehow letting air in, cause like I said it has been making noise for quite some time. I had already known that foamy sterring fluid is caused by air in the system. What I really wanted to know is if this was a sign that my pump or a component in my power steering is going out. Anyone experienced similar problems?
Anyway thanks for the input.

Change the fluid and fill to the right level. If the problem comes back quickly I'd say you have something bad.
