The Friends of Eldorado National Forest have been very busy in the past coupla weeks. Here are a few upddates:

1. The FOE website, www.friendsofeldorado.com is averaging about 300 unique hits a day.

2. We are VERY proud to announce two new supporters and sponsors for FOE:

Interco Tires http://www.intercotire.com/site.php

Golden Gate Petroleum http://www.ggpetrol.com/index.html

Please support businesses that support us in keeping your trails and campsite open!

3. We will have a booth at tomorrow's Rock N for the Kids.

4. We will have a planning meeting at Robb's resort during the Rockhead's event there on the 20th.

5. Our first clean-up and/or maintence trip is in the works...we will keep you posted.

6. A mass mailing went out to all members who have signed up at www.friendsofeldorado.com. If you have not responded to it, please do so ASAP to [email protected]

That E-mail is as follows:

Dear Friends of Eldorado National Forest ,

Let us start by thanking you for joining the Friends of Eldorado National Forest.( FOE ) Through your involvement and support, this newly-formed organization will help to keep our trails and campsites in Eldorado National not only in good shape, but open to the public .

Our goal is to work closely with the Forest Service to maintain our forests and keep trails open. The Eldorado National Forest service is very excited about FOE , and is more than willing to work with us to meet our goals.

In only 2 weeks since its inception, almost 200 people have been added to our mailing list, and that list is growing daily. Almost 400 people have given their support by adding us as a friend on Myspace. www.myspace.com/friendsofeldorado

FOE has also been very busy in many different activities. This past Tuesday several members attended a ride-along with the Forest Supervisor and Placerville District Ranger in the Iron Mountain/Capps Crossing area to look at several routes.

We have hosted weekly letter writing seminars and booths at CalRocs events, Rock N for the Kids Rockrace, Hangtown Extreme, Cal4Wheel HQ, as well as at multiple members' homes and club meetings.

It is also important to note that we have had much support from not just the Forest Service, but from key people in the OHV community. The Blue Ribbon Coalition issued an action alert, our press release has been posted on many different websites, Del Albright, Ken Knull, Scott Johnston and many others have also given us much help and input. Their experience in creating groups such as FOTR will be a major asset in making sure FOE is not only effective, but here to stay.

The founding members of FOE will be meeting at Robb's Resort on October 20th to discuss the logistics of the organization and delve out responsibilities. You are welcome to attend if you would like, however it is not a necessity. It is crucial that we organize some type of trail clean-up or maintenance project this year before the snow hits. We have several ideas in the works; look for an e-mail in the near future for details.

Several things are in the works, from getting sponsorships, to T-shirts and stickers, to planning events. Please bear with us in the next few months as we get things going.

While we have your e-mail and home address for many of you, in order to be more effective as an organization, This information will be used for internal use only and will not be given to any other organization or club without your permission.

PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS E-MAIL AND INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:

1. Complete Name

2. Phone number

3. Address, at least town so we know where you would be traveling from

4. Type of vehicle you drive

5. Clubs or organizations you belong to

6. Any special equipment you may have that would help in work projects
(Trailers, maintenance equipment, saws, generators, etc.)

7. Any special skills or training you feel would be beneficial to the organization
(CPR, safety, medical, road evaluation, etc)

8. Type of work or support you would be willing to do
(Help in leadership roles, cooking, working booths, donations, fundraisers,
cutting wood/brush, working on trails/campsites, litter and trash removal,
making phone calls, distributing flyers etc.)

9. Comments

Please make sure you pass the word on to as many people as possible about Friends of Eldorado National Forest. It is also important to note that we need to use the full name of the organization, Friends of Eldorado National Forest, when ever speaking or writing about it because there has been some confusion by the public.

Also remember:

October 20th is the deadline to respond in writing to the Eldorado DEIS. Write a comment today!
