Just a heads-up, www.welders-direct.com is giving away free carts with some of the mig welders. This offer starts of course the week AFTER I order mine

I haven't gotten to use it yet I had to come back to school right after it came in...but at least it looks pretty sitting on the bench (since I don't have a cart built yet )

Ask them if they can help you out. Send them that pic and tell them your are an "Official Inspection Station." Maybe they will send you one.

Hahaha My dad's garage was an inspection station until we did away with inspections this past spring...we decided to hi-jack the sign and put it in the shop at home

Didn't you know, blue paint makes it weld better? Yeah, it's true!

It's due to the different wavelengths of light reflected by the blue paint, causing ionization of the air in the room that results in a better arc being struck.

Well, since I owned a Hobart 175 back in 1995 that looked EXACTLY like that, and I am pretty sure that is well before Miller bought them out, I think you better get yo' facts straight about who looks like who

Hey Dave, do you have any pictures of that so we can confirm what you're talking about for sure? IF it is true people ought to know before they going buying anything.

FWIW though, here's the current Handler 175 (off the Hobart web site):

So at least the current models aren't identical.

I thought maybe you might have a pic of the truck or some truck part that might have it in the background
After all, what kind of loser takes pictures of his welder?

Just giving ya a hard time Dave. Gotta do my part to help ya hit 10k, right?

For what it's worth, this new Miller 175 (replacing the 172) does have a little bit more "cheapo" plastic than I would like

IIRC, the Miller 175 has continuously variable voltage whereas the Hobart 175 has 4 distinct settings. Also I think the Miller has all copper windings and the Hobart has copper/aluminum.

Thanks for the heads up on the free carts... now if I can only convince the WIFE that I NEEEEEEEED it.

BTW, looks like the Hobarts come w/ free carts too.

These machines new Millers' (135 & 175) VS. lastest Hobarts' (135 & 175) are VERY similar the internal parts & the gun are the same. The biggest difference is the infinate voltage control vs. taps on the Hobart , and the fact that on the Miller you get a cast aluminum drive roll housing that incorporates an EASY to remove & replace drive roll. I just bought a Miller 135 to replace a 135 hobart, I use mine only for .024 hard wire , and sometimes to burn flux core wire for quick repairs outdoors (I use a Millermatic 250 mostly however)so my reason for switching to the miller was I was less than impressed with the cheap ass wing nut that held the 8" spool on , and changing position on the drive roll for a different wire size usally meant bloody knuckles (pissed me off)- but I would still say eighther machine is excellent you just have to figure out if $100 more for a few extras is worth it cause they weld the same.

Just read Beebs post- Nope your not going to find an all copper transformer in there its ALL aluminum BUT so is my Millermatic 250(1998 model), and to my surprise so is my Syncrowave 250(2000 model)I take em' apart asap after I get a new one just to check it out. What I have been told is arc quality is better !? I say there similar but AL is WAYYYYY cheaper than copper so probably $$$$ is the real reason.
One more thing about the Miller 135 & 175 it is cool to have the light for overload on the front panel- the hobart I sold overheated while the guy was welding , and he thought the machinee was broken but he had only exceeded the duty cycle the light would have saved him some time!
