I am getting my frame sandblasted and painted soon and was wondering what chassis paint you guys use for your rigs? The guy thats sandblasting it for me is a steel bridge painter and he says the 20 year bridge coat would out last the truck. What do you think? thanks paul

POR 15 is the bomb! My frame is painted with it, after you have the frame blasted then set it out and let it get some surface rust. POR 15 needs this rust to bond properly to the metal. It sounds dumb but it works. <IMG SRC="smilies/redface.gif" border="0">

I've used POR15 alot, but recently when I got a frame painted and consulted with the shop they gave me the impression that POR15 is amateur "do-it-yourselfer" stuff.

Depending on who you talk to, POR15 has gotten mixed reviews on frame painting.

If this guy doing your painting is a professional bridge painter than I would take his advice. The guy that just painted my FJ40 frame recommended using Emron (Imron?) Industrial grade paint (this is after I described to him the abuse my frame would be taking) and I went with his recommendation (even though I had been planning on using POR15).

PS- my guy made no money on the paint, it was strictly labor for the sand blasting and painting.

You might look into powder coat. It is not that expensive in Atlanta. maybe $400 for a frame after sandblasting. I have 2 frames that I wire brushed then used rustoleum hard hat primer and top coat and it has been great and cheap
