I have a 70 and did man-a-frees front disc conversion to get rid of the drums. Now I want to get rid of this front and go to a stock front disc(72on?). My question is How much should I pay for one and are the housings the same? Could I just gut mine and exchange the guts from a 76? Finally, does anyone have a front that they want to get rid of? <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0">

Hey Matt,

I bought a complete Mini Truck disc brake kit for my FJ-55 for $300 without birfields.

I just sold my disc brakes, new hubs, birfields and inner axles for $350.

You will have to gut your housing to make this work. Your 3rd member and inner axles are still usable, but the MAF stuff you bought utilizes old course spline birfields.

If I were you, I would just grab some extra course spline birfields, add an ARB and be done with it. You already have a bunch of $$$ in that MAF disc brake kit, just keep it.

I know that mini truck birfields are stronger than the old course spline ones, but BIRFIELDS ALL SUCK so you might as well have your sweet Wildwood brakes and rotors from the MAF conversion and learn how to change birfields.

Why do you want to do this? Does MAF use coarse birfields for the disc conversion? For another datapoint, I got a complete '79 mini front end for $125 here in Boise.

I have a 76 front end FS. open diff. SOA spring perches, and dropped drag link for saginaw conversion. If you are SUA, you could use your old steering linkage, and weld new perches on the bottom of the housing. That way, if you decide to go SOA later, there would already be perches on top. Send me an email if you're interested.

Good Luck!!
