I have one sitting in the Garage.

There is no BOM number on the tube so I am sure it is a custom axle (came out of a Van conversion)

Anyone else know of such a odd ainmal?

how do you "know" it is a D60HD? is this a guess on your part? because it has 8 lugs? or does it actually say that cast into the housing?

Yeah, All 8 lug front axles are D60HD's :shaking:

Let me put it to you this way.

The center section looks like this.

And it says D60HD on it.

(these pics were stolen from Jack Rices website, they are not actual pictures of the axle I have, if you want real pics you will have to wait till I get home)

Well this is the Gen4x forum of Pirate, just thought I'd ask :flipoff2:

Sounds like a low production quasi-custom unit made by a 4x4 van converter. I don't think there were ever any D60HD fronts made. Not that it really matters, the housing just has extra webbing and I haven't seen too many housings break.

the housing may be stronger than a regular 60 housing, but the reverse-cut
gearing for front use is still stronger for that application....... this seems like
unneeded extra weight............

So is it a low pinion passenger side drop like a normal chevy or is driver side drop like a ford? I have seen a low pinion drivers side drop in a conversion van once, it may be something similar:confused:

It is a low pinion DS drop Front D60HD with Ford knuckles...

And like I said, it came out of a conversion van.

A fellow club member, BadAZyj here on the board, just broke his Ford HP60 centersection. I know of another guy that broke one last October too. We might be alittle rougher on parts here in AZ though.

I'm guessing a 1976-1977 Ford axle. They were Low Pinion.
What size U-joints? Does it have the Larger inner knuckles?

The only info I have is for Dana 44 in Con Vans, but I know there were Dana 60's sold to companies doing this.

Get me some pics, and double check for that BOM, any part of it. (All Dana axle have a BOM, lets see what left after the rust got it)

There should still be a BOM on it. How would you ever buy parts without a BOM?

this is gonna get installed in a new rig, but the owner is notorious for breaking previously unbroken parts....

Measure the size of the U-joint, that will tell a lot.

The 76-77 LP Ford runs a 5-86x joint and thus the same size as a 760 but with outer snap rings.
SO you could Run the following U-Joint

(Minnesota guy's are hard on parts also)
