ok

Just got done welding my spider gears in my YJ Dana30

Everything went well and i am very please with the outcome

The one problem we had was the welds blocked the C Clip for the intermediate shaft from going on. i took a close look at this and couldnt figure out the purpose of this c clip.

The FSM calls it a retaining clip but it seems the outer shaft seats into the inner shaft fairly tight and holds it in place nicely.

Am i missing something here?

Is the C clip only there to hold it in place when the outer shaft is removed?

I have 3 outer shafts as spares so that is not a concern if one breaks

Anyone??

thanks

When I did my gear setup on my '91 YJ it didn't have a C-clip also. I also was puzzled by FSM stating it has but I saw no need for it. There wasn't even a groove on the intermediate shaft to put one in. Don't worry about it. You just saved some weight. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

The earlier models had them, they (Jeep) deleted it a bit later because they too figured out that it wasn't required.

Throw it away - not required, no worries
