I am finishing my cage and I am wondering what front seats I should use for my rig. I've got two dirty sagged front original seats of my BJ44 but they don't have any side support.
I thought about getting seats of some sports car, some used Recaros but I have hard time finding 'em. I plan to use my BJ as a trail machine - mostly for 2-4 days off-road expeditions and may be some mud/swamp/rock 1 day events. I though about putting in front seats from BMW E32 7-er series - nice, soft, comfortable and some back support but then I am afraid that they will trashed. Here is another option - something like that:

brand new $220 and I think I can get a better deal from a wreck/junk yard. What do you think? I am not sure if I need a 4 point harness belts and seat for this kind of action:

more pics of Partisan-Trofy can be viewed here:http://www.belayev.dn.ru/28.11.03/index.html

Sowaddayathink? What kinda seats I should get?
Thanks
Andrey

A land Rover in Moscow! He list a BJ40 as his vehicle. Good catch. I understand the first pic is of the seat, but what is the second one for?

It is a known fact that the best seat for a DISCO II is the PS in a crew cab F350 flatbed wrecker on its way to a junkyard.

Here is my rig in the garage - please see below, the pic of DISCO is just to show what kind of wheeling I'll be doing - that I won't be doing much of a rock - mostly mud and forest.

IF you like the recaros, any VW Jetta GLI from the 80's will have recaro buckets. I think that some of the GTI's did too. Don't know the availability or VW parts there, but they are pretty easy to find here.
I run the volvos, got them for free, but I think the base is a little big and the passenger side sits high if you have an in-cab gas tank.

Did you have to make or modify brackets?

Probably not what oyu are looking for Andrey but gives an idea for some options....

New owner of my 40 yanked out the 740 seats because they sat too high for him. I'm 6'5 but because seats were adjustable they worked for me and almost everyone else but they were tall in a 40 using the OEM brackets and the Volvo seat bottoms but worked well. I'm very psyched about the 240 seats in a 55 though, they came out awesome...

I put mine in after seeing Rabid's seats. The 240 seats are thicker and higher than the 740 seats. I was able to get both of mine the same height though...

snip from ih8mud:

Here are some in my old 40 from a 740 Volvo:

And here are some in the pig, from a 240:
They actually look sweet all cleaned up these pics do no justice and make them look sort of nasty but they really are sweet leather seats:

The 740s and 240s use different seats, the 740 are a little more 'Euro' but both are some of the most comfortable seats out there; and they are sort of pimp. They have almost identical tracks so I think either could be used in most models. They were very easy to get into the 40 but sat a little high. I'm 6'5 so I was happy but the new owner I believe removed them. I basically bolted them to the stock FJ40 track. I can't remember if I had to use a welder or not but if I did it was very minor. The 240 seats in the pig were also pretty easy but required some fabrication. I used 1" square tubing to make spacers, and reused the stock holes on the outer OEM bench mount. For the middle I had to make a sort of bracket that allowed the seat to be bolted to it, and the bracket bolted to the floor. It took me two days but turned out very well. When I get better pics I'll post...

Thanks- Woody told (via PM) me about the brackets he made for his baja seats a couple months ago.

Be interested in knowing if they bolt right in. I don't have a welder and am not sure how I would make brackets. I'm looking to upgrade my seats.

Thanks

Many thanks to all for your responce and your information on the seats. It's kinda late reply since I've been away for holidays. I don't have to worry about brackets since I don't have stock floor - I use tube for creating seat posts.

Thanks again for the information!

Andrey:D

PS. I'll start looking for some sporty used seats in the junk yards.
