I want to put full size axles under my toyota pickup. All I need is a D44 and a D60 rear, of course a D60 front would be kewl but too expensive and hard too find. So, I would like to know what vehicles and years I can scout for at junkyards and pull both fromthe same rig . . .
I want to make sure I have flat top knuckles on the front end so I can do the whole crossover steering thing, and I would like to know which of the vehicles (or how I can tell) which has the stronger Dana 44 (d44hd?) and Dana 60 (or even corp 14) . . Help me out, I'm fullsize illiterate!

Hey... I got a friend in Canby who might be selling a 14 bolt ff and Dana 44 in a few weeks... if you want I will ask him the specs on it? Let me know... <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Yea that would be kewl. I can get a good discount from a local junkyard in Molalla, because my neighbor is best friends with the owner. But he doesn't get that much stuff in.
Oh, and I thought I should add that since I am putting it into a toyota, a passenger side drop (diff) is a requirement.
Oh and isn't a full size chevy axle ~68" wide from drum to drum?

I don't have any dimensions from drum to drum but I do have some overall widths for you. Dana 44 front with 15x10 (8 lug) 3 5/8 backspacing and 36x12.5 TSL's is 85" overall width, the 14 bolt rear is 2" narrower.

I do this all the time. You need to shorten the D60. 68" is too wide. The D60 are 35 spline, whereas the Corp.14Bolt is 30. The D44 30 inner/27outer would be fine for 35s. D44 30/30 is an 8 bolt configuration more suited for the 38s. I would use a 60" D44 convert to SOA. You don't necessarily have to locate flat top knuckles. D60 65" should work. Measure first. D44: '76 Scout, D60: '72 Jeep Truck(may not need to cut). The rear is much easier. <IMG SRC="smilies/ghost.gif" border="0">

Why is 68" too wide? Its only a foot wider than my axles are now (stock toyota). So, the fact is I would liek to go that extra width. So, can you get a 30/30 spline or a 35 spline D44 that is 68" wide? If so, what rigs did it come on (and what years). I am definetly going to be running 38's, maybe 40's . .. so I need to find the right axle.

its really wide but with some flares and removable flaps you can get a way with it!

No stock 44 is 35 spline, and 14 bolts are all 1.5", only a FEW 60s are 1.5" 35 spline(rear) most are 1.312" 30 spline, just like late model 44s.

I like the way the toy's look with fullsize axles. I think I am going to put the fullsize under. Do you run a crossover Militaryota? What year axles do you run under yours? D44 and D60 combo? Give me some more info . .

x2_rage......ARGH... !! Well, I called him today and he blew his tranny out trying to do something I bet he shouldn't had been doing. (I think he was trying to play in the river but won't admit it)... but anyhow he said he will sell the axles after the tranny is fixed. I say go with your friend and get the ones in the junk yard... bet you can get them sooner then Mr. Badwrench fixes his ride! BTW there was a nice set for sale in the paper in Keizer last week (think it was last week?). It was a Dana 44 front and 14b ff rear... like $1000 bucks... but it had a new locker, new brakes (rear disc) and a bunch of other stuff like new ball joints and bearings.... There was also beat up truck in Canby recently near Fred's (might have been in the Les Schwab lot?) that was for sale with a Dana 60 front and rear... think the guy had no title for it so he was probably willing to make a good deal for it... if that is there might wanna check it out?! <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

I remember slowing down and trying to check it out but couldn't real well because my friend was yelling to park so we could get what we needed. It was probably me, not alot of rigs like it around these parts..
X2, I run crossover and I have a 1976 d44 and 12bolt both left fullwidth..

I am in portland and have a rear D60 out of a '72 Chev with 4:10,no brakes though. I'd sell it for 150 bucks. I was gonna use it but got a Tera60r instead.

Thanks for all the help. I found a D60 and D70 combo, complete with 5.88 gears, full float front and rear, for $800 with shipping. So, I'm gonna put those bad boys under my rig. Oh, and their 6 bolt so I can use my rims!!

What do you mean they are 6 bolt? I think the only 6 lug 60 or 70 would be the military pattern, which is not even close to the 6x5.5 pattern toys have...What vehicle did they come from?

SOrry, your right. They are miltary, Jeep M715 axles, but the bolt pattern isn't close. No biggie, I can just drill some new hole sin my rims and put them through . its the great part about steel rims!
Yea, they are m715 Dana 60 and Dana 70 axles. The D60 has stock crossover steerign setup as well. Both have stock 5.88 gears and heavy duty drums. They are full floating front and rear, and are 30 spline front and rear. An awesome deal for $800. All I need is a spool for the rear and a front detroit and I'm ready to rock.
I plan on running either 38's or 40's on my yota, so Dana 44's are not much of an option for me, since I beat my vehicles. PLus, unlike most D60's, these are stock crossover, so that saves me time and money.
